This spring, thanks to our generous donor community, we came together to support neighbors facing food insecurity. Through our Morning Matters campaign, we helped stock breakfast shelves at local shelters—because we know even something as simple as a bowl of cereal can bring comfort, dignity, and hope.
We assumed summer meal programs would take over once school let out. But as we looked closer, we saw something troubling: they didn’t.
Pantry Packs paused for the summer. The few existing programs were already stretched thin. And when we reached out to potential partners, we found they simply didn’t have the capacity to expand.
That leaves a critical gap for the nearly 2,700 students in the Lake Washington School District who rely on free or reduced lunch during the school year.
Now that school is out—where are they getting their food?

We’ve decided to act.
The Kirkland Community Foundation is partnering with Hopelink’s End Summer Hunger campaign to make sure local families have access to the groceries they need—right now.
Hopelink’s Kirkland Food Market is seeing a 15% increase in demand over last summer. Keeping shelves stocked with fresh, culturally relevant food is harder than ever. But families are still showing up, hoping to find something to feed their kids.
We don’t want them to walk away empty-handed.
That’s why we’re cutting checks weekly to help Hopelink meet real-time needs—and we’re asking you to help us keep the shelves full.
