Here’s an update on the spark ignited by For the Love of Kirkland, the community event we hosted in April to celebrate what we love about our city and imagine what could make it even better.
Whether you joined us in person or are just learning about it now, the ideas and energy from that day are still unfolding. The creativity, enthusiasm, and care shared by our community have inspired momentum we’re excited to keep building—with your help.
Here’s a look at how a few of your favorite ideas are taking shape:
This idea soared to the top—and we understand why! There’s an eagle nest at Carillon Woods, and who wouldn’t want a live view of one of Kirkland’s most majestic residents?
Thanks to support from the City of Kirkland, we coordinated a drone flyover (in full compliance with wildlife engagement guidelines) to assess the site. While there wasn’t any nesting activity this season, the nest remains a promising candidate for future observation.
We’re learning a lot about nesting patterns, streaming requirements, and everything else it takes to bring this idea to life. It’s still in view for a future season—and if the timing’s right, it could really take flight!
Another top community suggestion was adding uplifting messages to Kirkland’s bright orange crosswalk flags.
We’re currently collaborating with City staff to explore options that maintain safety and visibility while incorporating words that inspire. The goal? More smiles without compromising safety.
Murals were one of the most popular ideas—and we love how bold and creative your visions are. After the success of the community mural on the Spud building in Juanita, we’re eager to collaborate again on something big, bright, and meaningful.
A historically themed mural along the Cross Kirkland Corridor was a standout suggestion. We’re now exploring locations throughout the city to find the perfect wall—one that can help tell our shared story and spark joy.
Your ideas reminded us that $500 might not fund a whole mural, but it can absolutely ignite something powerful. This could shape up to be a 2026 project—and the groundwork is already being laid.
Have a great mural wall in mind? Let us know!

Here’s the big news: the $500 Community Challenge is now open to everyone in the Kirkland community—all summer long!
Have an idea that could make Kirkland just a little better? Whether it’s a bench, a mural, a gathering space, a pop-up art moment, or something brand-new—we want to hear it.
Your idea doesn’t need to be big—it just needs to be thoughtful. The goal is to spark joy, build connection, and help shape Kirkland in meaningful ways.
We’ll be out and about all summer, and we’d love for you to stop by and say hello—or share your idea in person:
