There’s nothing quite like a crisp, sunny September day in Kirkland—especially when it’s spent outdoors.
In mid-September, we had the pleasure of joining longtime resident Janet Hill for a celebratory visit to North Kirkland Community Center Park and North Rose Hill Woodlands Park, where her family’s generosity is making a lasting impact.
Janet and her husband, James Hill, known for their deep roots in the community, saw a simple but meaningful need: clean drinking water for park visitors.
Whether you’re jogging the boardwalk at North Rose Hill Woodlands Park, chasing little ones around the new climbers at the North Kirkland Community Center & Park, or simply walking with your dog on a lazy afternoon, staying hydrated is essential. But until recently, options were limited if you forgot your water bottle—or didn’t want to carry one
With the installation of new drinking fountains, visitors now have easy access to fresh water during their time in the parks.
Thanks to the Hill family’s thoughtful vision, swift action, and generous funding, two of Kirkland’s most beloved parks now feature eco-friendly water fountains designed for all—kids, our four-legged friends, and any adults who still like to play in the castle!
“Our family chose to do this project in partnership with the Kirkland Community Foundation because we wanted to team up with people who genuinely care about our city. We saw a simple way to make our parks more welcoming, and it’s been amazing to watch that vision come to life.”
Their gift is a refreshing reminder that small improvements can make a big difference. So next time you take a sip at one of these new fountains, join us in thanking Janet & James Hill.
What park upgrades could your family imagine in partnership with the Foundation?
